A nine-year-old boy named Mac, who lived in Alaska, baked cupcakes and hosted a party every year on the birthday of his father, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009. This year, however, he wrote a special letter.
“Dear Dad, I have some questions. What is it like to be in a tank? How old are you now? How old were you when you died? What is your favorite food? What is your favorite animal? What is your favorite hobby? What is your favorite activity? What is it like to be in heaven? Have you seen what I have accomplished?”
Mac was only five when he lost his dad. So, he was curious about many things concerning his dad. He also wanted to show his dad that he hadn’t forgotten him and that he still loved him. His mom posted her son’s wish on Facebook and was soon able to meet Lt. Col. Brian Baldwin, an F-22 pilot, by the help of Helping American Veterans Experience Alaska [HAVE-Alaska].
On Jan. 24, Lt. Col. Baldwin who was assigned to the special mission flew with Mac’s letter as high as his aircraft could go, hoping that the love of the young son would reach his dad.
