At the end of June, the Church of God held a special event for students. The 5th Seminar for Student was held at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple in Korea on June 25. The seminar for students, which began in the form of a webinar (a seminar conducted online) in April 2022, is to share emotional bond with students and relieve stress from studying, through various programs such as Bible seminars, skits, and orchestra performances prepared by students. It has been receiving a great response from students.
This day, too, the audience who came to the seminar looked excited for the event. About 1,900 people, including students, their friends, student group guidance teachers, and parents, filled the sanctuary and the seminar room in the Temple. About 2,300 people watched the event through the live broadcast on YouTube from all over the country.
The event began with a small concert around 1 p.m. The Chamber Orchestra of the Church of God, consisting of violins, violas, cellos, clarinets, and flutes, has performed various songs: the New Song, Beautiful Is Today, the OST of the movie Frozen, Karl Jenkins’ Concerto Palladio, etc. There was also a performance of the choir. The students were entrenched as they were watching the performances, and they responded to the orchestra and the choir with a big round of applause and cheers.
The topic of the seminar was “Resolving Misunderstandings and Revealing the Truth.” This topic shows that in adolescence when they learn and grow much, one should be able to make correct judgments without being biased toward fixed ideas or prejudices in daily life such as religious life, academics, and friendships.
Prior to the seminar presentation, the students staged a witty skit that portrayed the story of resolving misunderstandings caused by fixed ideas at school. The audience burst out laughing at the actors’ every gesture and line, and everybody felt comfortable in the audience while laughing together. The seminar shed light on historical cases in which the truth was obscured by misunderstandings due to fixed ideas. They introduced the seventh-day Sabbath, a biblical truth that was hidden by the fixed ideas that people go to church on Sunday. They delivered the message to have wisdom to distinguish the truth from falsehood even if many people regard falsehood as common sense.
Before and after the event, a photo zone and a calligraphy postcard booth were crowded. The students made this event memorable by taking pictures in cute poses at the photo zone. Kim Min-gun (from Incheon) said, “I enjoyed the skit and the concert. I would like to thank my friend for inviting me. From now on, I will be more aware that what I’ve known can be a fixed idea.” Min-kyung Kim (from Seoul), who came with her friend, said, “As a senior in high school, I was worried that I would waste my time attending a seminar that had nothing to do with preparing for the SAT. However, I was comforted and moved by the orchestra performance, and I gained much more than expected through this event.”
