Because God Loved You

After coming to understand the truth, one question lingered in my mind and refused to leave:

“Out of all the people in the world, why did God choose me?”

I wasn’t particularly wise, nor had I earnestly sought God. It felt humbling—almost undeserved—to have received such a precious blessing.

The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Dt 7:7–8

My heart stirs at these words: that I was not chosen because I met any qualifications, but simply because God loves me. To God Elohim, who loves me despite my many shortcomings, I offer my deepest gratitude. I will strive to be a child who lives with thankfulness and responds faithfully to the grace I have received—so freely given, though I am so undeserving.
