Why We Say “I Love You”

While I was preparing for class, a child came up to me and asked,
“Teacher, do you know why we say, ‘I love you’?”
“Well, let me see . . .”
As I was thinking about how to answer, the child replied,
“Because we love them.”
The moment I heard those words, I realized that this was the simplest and surest answer of all. We do not need a grand reason to say, “I love you.”
I should tell my family, both physical and spiritual, that I love them—because I do.
