There is a campaign to donate coffee to neighbors who cannot afford a cup of coffee. When you pay for the coffee, you pay someone else’s coffee in advance, and then someone in need would come and drink coffee for free. This was called the “suspended coffee,” which means “the advance purchase of a cup of coffee for someone who needs.” It started in Naples, Italy, and spread to many countries.
This sharing movement was also introduced in Korea. The “Half a Bean” movement, which started in Geochang, is not only for food such as coffee and bread, but for beauty and spa. The same is true for a coffee shop called, “Mirinae,” which is spreading all over the nation, such as Seoul, Busan, and Jeju after they started their first location in Sancheong. The name “Mirinae” was coined as a simple meaning of paying a price in advance in the Korean language. However, it also means the Milky Way in Jeju dialect, so it also contains the wish that the spirit of giving would shine like the Milky Way.
These days, sharing with neighbors is more meaningful than any other time because our life is getting tougher. We hope that our beautiful hearts to share even a small thing with others will come together and shine society like the Milky Way.
