In June, the Church of God Messiah Orchestra flew from Korea to Peru to hold concerts in Lima, Huancayo, and Trujillo. Forty-five Korean orchestra members held more than 20 concerts, big and small, in various places such as the National Grand Theater, the National Assembly Hall, and the Presidential Palace Plaza, together with the Philose Orchestra of the Church of God in Peru, from June 9 to 27. As the message of Mother’s love was delivered through the music which is the universal language, all the audiences were moved in local communities. Many public figures, such as heads of government agencies, lawmakers, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Judicial officers, local government officials, entrepreneurs, and university professors, attended the concerts and praised them for their performances.
The first performance of Messiah Orchestra was held at the environmental forum co-hosted by ASEZ WAO and the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Culture at the National Grand Theater on the evening of June 9. The National Grand Theater in Lima is the representative performance facility of Peru. They were able to rent the theater without difficulty thanks to the active support of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Culture. The event was attended by more than 1,500 local residents and people from all walks of life, including Albina Ruiz the Minister of Environment, Leslie Urteaga the Minister of Culture, Nancy Tolentino Gamarra the Minister of Women and Vulnerable Populations, Pedro Cartolin Pastor the Supreme Court Justice, and Ciro Castillo the Regional Governor of Callao. It was successful. The performance was in line with the theme of the event, “Tomorrow Will Be Late.” Through his presentation, an ASEZ WAO activist urged, “We must take action together to protect the global environment,” and he received great response. At the ASEZ Global Forum for the Implementation of the SDGs, which was held at the Faucett Church on June 11, the Messiah Orchestra’s performance also deeply moved the hearts of the participants.
Since then, many government agencies such as the National Assembly and the Ministry of Justice requested to hold a concert for them. In response, the Messiah Orchestra performed several concerts in a row to deliver a message of encouragement to local residents and government officials who work for their country in each agency. On June 22, they held a concert at National Assembly Hall at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly, and then flew to Trujillo to perform at the Victor Raul Lozano Ibanez Theater, which has about 1,100 seats. On June 25, a large crowd gathered for the performance at the Presidential Palace Plaza. This news became a hot topic on social media, and hearing this, the Ministry of Justice invited the orchestra to come perform for them as well. Thus, another concert was held at the Ministry of Justice on June 27.
Between schedules, the orchestra members visited local churches and held concerts, too. On June 14, they held the “Messiah Orchestra Hope Concert for Happy Families” at Huancayo Church, which touched the hearts of more than 860 people from education, legal, medical, business fields and local residents. On Father’s Day (the third Sunday in June), they performed a concert at the Faucett Church under the title, “Jerusalem Mother, the Hope of Mankind,” and delivered Heavenly Mother’s merciful love to the local residents and many distinguished guests.
The concert consisted of classical music such as Radetzky March, a Peruvian folk song, “El Condor Pasa,” and a Korean folk song, “Arirang.” Depending on region, they performed a quartet performance of “Amigos Para Siempre (Eternal Friends)” the theme song for the Barcelona Olympics, a pop song, “You Raise Me Up,” and a fan dance as well. They moved all the audiences and received a standing ovation at each concert. While delivering comfort and love with music, the Messiah Orchestra received 50 awards, as many people and organizations, including the state governments of Junin and La Libertad, expressed their gratitude.
The Messiah Orchestra concert, which delivered God’s boundless love for humanity, served as civilian diplomacy and cultural exchange that strengthen the relationship between the two countries and acknowledge the beauty of each culture, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korea and Peru. National Assembly Speaker Jose Williams Zapata said, “We welcome the Messiah Orchestra. They deliver hope to people going through social and economic difficulties, through their beautiful performance. Thank you for coming from Korea to Peru.” At the concert held at the Ministry of Justice building on June 27, the Justice Minister building, Minister Jose Andres Tello Alfaro said, “Your performances made us think of God and reflect on our work and life.” He expressed his desire to support the Church of God activities in the future.
The orchestra members agreed that it was a meaningful time to realize the power of music on the other side of the globe. Brother Kim Tae-hyeon, a French horn player, said, “Huancayo is located at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,830 ft) above sea level. I had to put on a ventilator for practice until right before the concert. I believed our concert was to deliver Mother’s love, not to perform a mere music. Seeing how they responded to our performance, I felt that our true heart was delivered to the audience successfully.” Brother Renzo Marcelo Espinoza Casas, who watched the Environmental Concert on June 9, said, “It was a wonderful time for the heads of organizations, experts in various fields, and local residents to be moved by music together and to unite to work for the improvement of our society and environment.”
Since its establishment in October 2000, the Messiah Orchestra has been actively performing domestic touring concerts and charitable concerts. As a civilian diplomat, they will continue to deliver the love of God Elohim and the hope for tomorrow to the global villagers through music.
