Just by cleaning your house once, you can’t keep it clean forever. As dust perpetually falls, there is always something new to clean. If you always want your house to stay clean and organized, you must clean it every day.
It is the same with our minds. Even if you regret what you have done and make up your mind to do something good, your commitment to that idea doesn’t remain firm forever. Sometimes you may make mistakes and do things that you didn’t want to do.
“The shoelace you tied yesterday may become loose today and untied tomorrow. Just as you tie the shoelace every day, you must remind yourself of what you have determined.”
If we have made up our minds to participate in the divine nature, we must reflect upon ourselves every day. If we give up what we have decided to do for trivial reasons and only blame ourselves, it won’t help us change. We have to compose our minds with God’s word and tie up any loose ends today and tomorrow just as we tie a loose shoelace.
