I used to think that farming would be too demanding for my husband, considering his physical condition. But recently, after we started a weekend farm, I discovered a new side of him. Having found joy in farming, he now goes to the farm faithfully every weekend even when he is not feeling well. Just seeing the seeds sprout and grow vigorously seems to give him energy, and whenever he steps onto the farm, he lights up like a child. When he brings home the harvest, he even lifts his shoulders with pride.
“Look at this. Isn’t it beautiful?”
One day, my husband proudly showed me the air yam (aerial yam). While regular yams grow underground, the air yam is a vine plant that bears fruit above ground. To me, the fruits looked bumpy and irregular—frankly, not very pretty. But my husband saw them differently. He looked at the shining fruits as if they were treasures, gazing at them with admiration. One day, fearing they would freeze when the frost came, he even harvested the tiny, underdeveloped fruits, feeling sorry that they hadn’t had time to grow bigger.
Watching my husband, I was reminded of the heart of our Heavenly Father and Mother, the true spiritual Farmers. Even if we are lacking, even if our faith is not yet great, They still embrace us with love simply because we are Their children. I am truly grateful for Their endless grace and compassion.
