As the Bible teaches us to display God’s glory through our good deeds, we formed a voluntary service team to show Heavenly Father and Mother’s glory to our neighbors. Our team was named “The Sparkling”; we wanted to clean not only the shopping area around the church but also the broad streets and narrow alleys to make them all sparkle. We decided to clean up every Thursday.
“Sparkling loving hearts! Sparkling smiles! Here we go! Yay!”
During our first cleanup day, we started cleaning the streets with a powerful chant. Our church was located in a shopping area, and the streets were rather dirty. Every street, especially each corner of the alleys, was full of trash that had been sitting there for quite a while. We swept many cigarette butts, and cleaned up all kinds of trash and weeds in flowerbeds. Looking at every nook and cranny, we cleaned up everything so that no trash was left behind. As we continued our voluntary service, the streets got cleaner, and we greeted everybody who passed by us with bright smiles.
Once, twice, three times . . . as the number of our voluntary service increased, the storekeepers’ attitude toward us changed. They came and greeted us, “Thank you for your work.” Some people tidied up around their stores once we start cleanup.
A clothing store owner waited for us to come back after picking up all the trash to give us coffee. “I’m moved at your sincerity without showing off yourselves,” she said. Later, she even received the truth. “I’m glad to become a member of this good church,” she said happily. Also, a person joined us for the voluntary service and became interested in the Bible. He came to the church whenever he had time and started studying the Bible.
Before, we thought that streets were only for walking. However, it was a place where we can do good deeds and lead many souls to salvation.
We will continue our voluntary service to share joy with our neighbors. Then the glory of God will sparkle in people’s minds.
“Sparkling loving hearts! Sparkling smiles! Here we go! Yay!”
