A food company in the United States asked a consumer psychology expert to find the perfect taste of a pasta sauce. It was to find the best taste, “the bliss point,” as any other food company tries to find out. “The bliss point” refers to the optimum concentration at which the combination of food ingredients in the food reaches the peak of sensory satisfaction.
The expert made 45 kinds of sauces such as spicy, sweet, sour, and salty, and let people taste it. As a result of the experiment, there was no taste that was particularly scored higher than others. The bottom line was, “There is no such thing as a perfect pasta sauce in the world. There are only various kinds of sauce that people like.” Accepting the expert’s suggestion, the food company stopped producing only one product and started to sell a variety of sauces that could satisfy many people’s preferences. Actually, this pasta sauce company had used to sell the least in the market, but they become the Number One in the market after that.
Just as people have different taste preferences, they have different personality and likes. No one is perfect. When we understand this and approach others, we will be able to get along well with various people.
