“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed first.”

This is what U.S. Navy Seal Admiral, William H. McRaven said during his speech at a university graduation ceremony in Texas. The act of making the bed is something that anyone can do. How is it that someone can change the world by doing something so simple?

Admiral McRaven said that if you make your bed every morning, you have accomplished the first task of the day. This simple act will give you a small sense of pride and encourage you to complete another task. He said, “Even if by chance you had a miserable day, when you come home to a bed that is made, it will encourage you to think that tomorrow will be better.” He emphasized that making the bed will reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter.

In fact, those who have achieved remarkable results in each of their fields all have something in common. They all have the habit of constantly putting into practice the things that seem to look trivial. Even if the task before you appears trivial, such as writing in a gratitude journal, stretching, or reading, if you faithfully carry it out, you will gain the confidence and courage needed to accomplish your bigger goals. Great goals are accomplished by accumulating many small achievements. The ability to change the world comes from knowing the value of small things and putting them into practice.
