“Talking with my cousin who lives in Switzerland has become easier than ever, but talking with my husband over breakfast has become more difficult. His eyes are constantly on his smartphone instead of me.” Yuval Harari, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, Gimm-Young Publishers

Rapidly advancing communication technology has not necessarily led to the advancement of communication itself. In an era when individualism is widespread and psychological distance between people continues to grow, experts advise that kind words rooted in warm concern can strengthen relationships and add warmth to society.

On December 28, 2025, and January 4, 2026, the Church of God held the seminar titled, “The Words of Mother’s Love That Brings Peace to Families and Neighbors” over two days at 10 regional churches nationwide, including Busan, Incheon, Gimpo, Seongnam, Yongin, Cheonan, and Suncheon. The purpose of the seminar was to promote communication that positively influences one another by practicing the Words of Mother’s Love in daily life, thereby making families and society warmer places. The seminar was held to share the effects of the “Beginning of Peace: The Words of Mother’s Love” campaign, which began in 2024, and to encourage participation. About 6,600 people—including local members, family members, friends, and neighbors—attended. Figures from various sectors were also present to welcome the seminar.

The theme of the seminar was “Skills for Happy Communication.” The Words of Mother’s Love, based on the emotional expressions most commonly used by a mother when caring for her children, consists of nine elements imbued with interest in and consideration for others. The seminar emphasized that peace can be achieved within relationships when the words used freely according to one’s mood or situation is replaced with those of love containing support and respect. After a video introduction of cases in which parents and children, as well as husbands and wives, participated in the campaign together and experienced positive changes at home, presenters explained—through presentations—the sense of psychological stability and relational changes that come from practicing the words of love such as greetings, expressions of gratitude, and apologies. The presenters vividly demonstrated incorrect and correct examples of praise, drawing bursts of laughter from the audience. This was followed by a balance game to understand personality tendencies among attendees and hands-on practice of the words of love for different situations, creating a warm atmosphere throughout the venue.

After the presentations, attendees recited in unison a Peace Declaration pledging to “consistently practice the Words of Mother’s Love in daily life.” During the ensemble performance of the campaign theme song, “Beginning of Peace: The Words of Mother’s Love,” everyone waved their mobile phone flashlights together, singing along and reflecting on the meaning of the lyrics.

Before and after the event, side programs were also prepared for those unfamiliar with the Words of Mother’s Love. A panel exhibition introducing the campaign’s current status and testimonials after practice, as well as booths where participants placed stickers under categories such as “words I haven’t said often” and “words I want to hear,” were crowded with attendees. A photo zone prepared with cute props and a booth where participants drew capsules containing the words of love and practiced them on the spot also drew attention.

Attendees unanimously said that the seminar was essential not only for families but also for society in an era of deepening conflict. At the seminar held on December 28 at the Ganseok Church, Incheon, Jeon Yong-ho, a member of the Namdong District Council of Incheon Metropolitan City, said, “Even if praise and greetings feel awkward, they help improve relationships. In that sense, this event will play a major role in unity and harmony within the local community.” On the same day, Jo Woo-hyun, a member of the Seongnam City Council who attended the seminar at the Moran Church, Seongnam, also remarked, “Words are important enough to ‘repay a thousand nyang of debt.’ This was a seminar that restored intergenerational empathy and strengthened a sense of community.”

Jang Young-soon, a member who attended the seminar with his wife on January 4 at the Sangha Church, Yongin, shared, “Although we’ve been married for twenty-eight years, there are still things I don’t know about my wife, so we intentionally go to cafés and talk often. Through today’s practice, I felt that I should more actively express gratitude and apologies.” Han Hak-soo, a member who temporarily returned to Korea while living as an immigrant in Canada, smiled and said after attending the seminar at the Ganseok Church ,Incheon, “Even in multicultural Canada, if the Words of Mother’s Love are practiced diligently, it would help embrace people different from myself and create a warmer and more peaceful society.”

The Words of Mother’s Love Seminar is scheduled to continue, expanding to more than 30 churches nationwide in mid to late January, and to churches around the world in February.

“Beginning of Peace: The Words of Mother’s Love” Campaign
The Church of God proclaimed New Jerusalem Day (November 1), which coincided with the 60th anniversary of the church’s establishment in 2024, as “Mother’s Love and Peace Day,” and launched the “Beginning of Peace: The Words of Mother’s Love” campaign starting on that day. Words filled with affection heard from a mother become nourishment that helps a person grow into a healthy individual. With the aim of spreading a culture of language that embodies such Mother’s heart, the Church of God designated a total of nine words of love, including “It’s okay. I understand,” “I’d love to hear more about your thoughts,” and “I’ll pray (or root) for you. Everything will go well.” Further details can be found on the website heavenlymotherslove.org.
