On February 4, Korean members of ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, who are staying in South Africa for volunteer activities and cultural exchanges, carried out ASEZ Blue Carbon (ABC) Movement alongside members from the University of Kwazulu-Natal and Durban University of Technology at Blue Lagoon Beach in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

Despite the scorching weather, with temperatures exceeded 30°C (86°F), about 20 members diligently collected about 540 kg (1,190 lbs) of waste, including PET bottles, Styrofoam, and discarded tires, from the beach to help purify the sea—a vital reservoir of blue carbon.

After the cleanup, a panel exhibition was held to raise public awareness of protecting blue carbon. A citizen said, “This is my first time hearing about blue carbon. Thank you for carrying out such an important activity.”

On the same day, about 30 participants, including ASEZ members from Nelson Mandela University, conducted another ABC Movement activity at King’s Beach in Port Elizabeth. Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Ward Councilor Renaldo Gouws visited the site to encourage the members and their efforts.
