2nd Chamber Orchestra Concert for Students

On August 27, when summer was not over yet, the Church of God held the 2nd Chamber Orchestra Concert for Student. The Messiah Orchestra members prepared the event to encourage students to start their new semester with excitement after their short summer vacation. The concert, which was held at the New Jerusalem Pangyo Temple, Korea, was a great success, being attended by more than 2,100 audiences, including students, parents, and teachers in the metropolitan area. It was also broadcast live nationwide on YouTube, and more than 4,400 people watched it.

The students who arrived early before the concert had a happy time taking photos by using props and picking out calligraphy postcards. There was a long line for each booth, but it seemed like there was no time to get bored as they took selfies and chatted while waiting.

Around 1 p.m., Messiah Orchestra wind ensemble opened the concert in a friendly atmosphere. The wind ensemble consisted of woodwinds and brass instruments. The well-organized harmony of clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones, and horns captured the audience’s attention. They performed “Grandpapa’s 11 Month” with cute melodies, Mozart’s representative piano sonata “Turkish March,” and Disney OST medley. The students enjoyed the performance, humming the lyrics of the OST with their mouths or matching the rhythm with their hands and feet.

Following the wind ensemble, an 18-member chamber orchestra consisting of violins, violas, cellos, and oboes appeared on the stage. Their performance comforted the audiences with the warm melodies of the Church of God’s New Songs, such as “Beautiful Is Today” and “Today, I Go to Zion.” They performed popular songs such as “A Whole New World” from the movie Aladdin and the OST from the animation My Neighbor Totoro. The songs touched the audience’s heart. The finale of the concert was the student choir. A total of 65 students sang “For the Beauty of the Earth,” expressing appreciation for the beauty of nature and the Creator, and a New Song, “There Is Only Heaven in My Heart.” The clear and pure tone moved all the audience, resounding throughout the event hall.

Lee Seong-hui, Principal of Osan High School, who attended at the invitation of her student, said, “The harmonies were elaborate and the melodies were soft. I felt that the students must have united with each other while practicing a lot. I had a great time and felt comforted.” Baek Ji-hoo (from Seoul) said, “I came here because my friend said she was going to sing in a choir. It was nice to hear the songs I liked since I was a child, and I hope there will be more events like this in the future.” Kim Hye-seong (from Icheon) said, “My whole family, including my husband, came because my daughter came with her friends. It was like an oasis in the desert for the students who are about to go back to their busy schedules once school starts.”

Kwon Tae-hyeon (from Seoul), a choir member, said, “Since we are students, we know how other students feel. So we prepared the choir to encourage and comfort them. I hope that all the students who came here will relieve all the stress or worries that they may have before school starts, and remember this concert as a precious memory.” As the choir member wished, the faces of the students who attended the event were full of smiles.
