In early July 2024, around 80 members of the Syari Church in Gangtok, Sikkim, India, participated in a tree-planting activity to combat climate change and prevent desertification. The Forest Department provided 210 saplings to support the effort. Although the planting site was in a remote area that required passing through a police checkpoint, the activity proceeded smoothly with the department’s assistance.

On the day of the event, heavy rain began falling in the morning, yet the members’ faces remained bright. The rain, which continued throughout the day, was regarded as a “blessed rain” granted by God. Newly planted saplings must be watered generously to take root and grow well, and thanks to the rain, there was no need to bring water from afar. The members gave thanks to God for sending the rain to support the tree planting.

News of the activity was featured in a local newspaper and online media, reaching a wide audience. Government officials also expressed how deeply moved they were by the volunteers’ sincere service, and offered thanks to Heavenly Mother for teaching them to carry out such good deeds.

The tree planting concluded after five hours. Despite difficulties caused by insects and getting thoroughly soaked in the rain, the members all expressed the same thoughts: “We’re grateful to take part in this work to prevent disasters and glorify God, and we’re happy to be united with our Zion family.” We look forward to seeing what kind of volunteer work lies ahead.
