Sing Hymns and Spiritual Songs With Gratitude in Your Hearts to God
2 Chronicles 20:1–30

“A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Sea. It is already in En Gedi.”
Jehoshaphat was alarmed when he heard about the attack from the allied forces of the Moabites and Ammonites, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. So people from all the towns of Judah came together to seek help from God. Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of God in the front of the courtyard, and he prayed to God:
“O our God, the men of Ammon and Moab are coming to drive us out of this land. We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”
Then the Spirit of God came upon Jahaziel, a Levite and descendant of Asaph who was a musician during the reign of King David. He said:
“Do not be afraid or discouraged. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance God will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and God will be with you.”
When Jahaziel finished delivering God’s message, Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people also fell down in worship before God. Then some Levites stood up and praised God with very loud voice.
Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to God and let them go out at the head of the army.
“Give thanks to God, for His love endures forever.”
As they began to sing and praise, God set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab to defeat them. They helped to destroy one another and all of them perished.
Then all the men of Judah, led by Jehoshaphat, returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for God had given them victory over their enemies. They went to the temple of God with harps and lutes and trumpets.
A song of praise to the Savior is an instrument of faith that helps God’s people put their minds together. Although each of them makes a different sound, when they sing praise to God with gratitude in their hearts, it creates a beautiful harmony and brings forth a true faith.
Despite the fears of war, the people of Judah praised God, and it evoked their faith in victory and even moved heaven, so they were able to win a great victory through God’s help and power. Where there is a song of praise, God is there and brings forth victory.
Now the New Songs of praise to Elohim are resounding throughout the whole world. In any and every situation, let us only look to God and sing the sacred songs with gratitude in our hearts. Very soon, the song of triumph which the heavenly army sings will resound across the entire universe.
