Some time ago, I read an article about a mother taking care of her sick son. Her son suffered from a disease that caused respiratory problems followed by muscle contraction. The doctors who diagnosed his disease told her that he only had eighteen months to live.
She took her son back home, and began to massage his chest as often as possible to relax his muscles. Even while her son was sleeping, she didn’t stop massaging him.
The problem was when she needed to sleep. She took catnaps, but even while she was taking it, she couldn’t fall into a deep sleep, worrying that her son might die from the shortness of breath. So, the maximum hours that she could sleep a day were only three hours.
The mother kept the light on all night so that she wouldn’t fall into a deep sleep; she covered the lamp with a lamp shade in order not to affect her son’s sleep and let it shine only towards her. When the lamp didn’t work for her anymore owing to her extreme fatigue, she bit her arms to stay awake as much as possible. As time went by, her arms were covered with scars and bites.
Fortunately, a benefactor heard about them and gave them a respirator. Thanks to the respirator, the mother’s life became a lot easier, but she couldn’t get her worries off her chest. While doing house chores, she often checked the respirator to make sure it worked normally and she still couldn’t fall into a deep sleep because she worried that the respirator would stop working due to a power outage at night.
Despite the doctors’ pessimistic diagnosis, her son has been living for more than three years thanks to her devotional care. The reporter asked the mother who became extremely weak while taking care of her son, “Hasn’t it been too hard for you to take care of your son by yourself for so long?”
“Not at all! He’s my son. I will do whatever it takes as long as I can keep him alive,” she answered.
Moved by the mother’s sacrifice and love, the reporter concluded his article with the statement that said, “The parents’ grace is as heavy as a mountain.” I was greatly moved, too, reading that the mother would do anything for her son. It was because I remembered Heavenly Mother taking care of Her spiritual children day and night. Heavenly Mother always worries about us and does not rest even while we are sleeping. No matter how tired She is, She never stops praying for us. She suffers instead of us, but She never frowns; She only feels happy for the fact that Her children can have eternal life and go to the kingdom of heaven.
My soul is still alive thanks to the endless sacrifice of Heavenly Mother. I will never forget Mother’s grace. I will engrave Her sacrifice deep in my heart and repay Her for Her boundless love.
