One day, John Rockefeller, a global businessman called the King of Kerosene, received shocking news that he only had one year left to live.
When he was sitting in the hospital and thinking about how he would live the rest of his life successfully, he heard a noise from a corner of the hospital. It was an argument between a hospital official and a guardian. The official was informing the woman that no one can be admitted without paying, but the mother insisted that they admit her child, saying that she would prepare the money in the meanwhile. Next to them was a child who looked like a patient sitting down and crying. Immediately, Rockefeller called his secretary to pay the child’s bill. Not long after, Rockefeller saw the child recover well, and felt great happiness at the thought that he had done something worthwhile. It was the feeling that he had never experienced before.
Afterwards, Rockefeller established many orphanages and libraries, and helped the weak and the poor. He began a life of giving and sharing. After that, his sickness was miraculously cured. In the end, he lived to be 98 years old, 43 years more than he was projected to live. At the end of his life, he said,
“I didn’t know life could be such joyful. I lived a busy life for 55 years, but my later 43-year life was so happy.”
