Korea
As autumn deepened with falling leaves and widening temperature swings, a concert brought warmth to the hearts of local residents. On October 26, the “Happy Concert With Neighbors” was held at the Church of God in Gwangju Seogu, Yeongcheon, and Changwon Uichang. Alongside the concert, the Changwon Uichang Church hosted a seminar titled “The Most Precious Gift: Family,” reflecting on the meaning of family, while the Yeongcheon Church added significance by commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Church of God in Yeongcheon. About 1,900 people—including members, their families, acquaintances, local citizens, and figures from politics, business, and education—attended and enjoyed meaningful time with their loved ones.
The concert was performed by chamber orchestras composed of members from each region. Baek Ji-yeon, a flutist from Gwangju, shared, “We prepared this concert hoping that it would offer people a brief moment of rest from their busy routines.” The orchestra presented a gentle and moving program featuring New Songs of the Church of God, including “I Imagine to Myself” and “We Will Be Changed in a Flash,” along with melodies that reflected the sentiment of autumn. They also captivated the audience with familiar and diverse selections, including film soundtracks.
A performance by the choir also drew admiration. Some audience members were moved to tears as they listened to nostalgic songs such as “Spring in My Hometown” and “Mommy and Sister,” recalling precious memories. From students who came with friends to middle-aged participants who brought their elderly parents, people of all generations were united through the medium of music.
After the event, attendees enjoyed conversation with acquaintances and took photos at the photo zone, continuing the warm atmosphere. Kim Young-ah from Gwangju, a university student who attended at a friend’s invitation, said with a bright smile, “Listening to such beautiful music eased my academic stress and lifted my spirits.” Kim Seong-ja, who traveled from Busan to Changwon for the concert, shared, “I often attend concerts, and today’s performance was truly impressive. The seminar on family was also very moving.”
Leaders from various sectors praised the concert for promoting communication and unity within the community. Jung Myeong-suk, Vice President of Naju College, remarked, “At a time when social conflicts are causing many problems, this concert provides a meaningful opportunity to ease such tensions. I hope events like this will continue so that the local community can come together.” Moon Hee-sang, Head of Naewae-dong in Gimhae, expressed appreciation to the organizers, saying, “It is admirable that the church provides cultural experiences for citizens and actively engages with the local community.”
