The IWBA Entrance Ceremony 2024 was held to inspire young adult members who are striving to make the most of their time in a “split-second society” while balancing work and faith, and to welcome the new students of the International Worker Bible Academy [IWBA] as they take their first steps into society. The event took place on June 9 at the Okcheon Go&Come Training Institute, marking the beginning of a year of education for young adult workers. Approximately 10,000 attendees participated, including young professionals from across the country, soon-to-be graduates from universities and high schools, pastoral staff, young adult and student group guidance teachers, and overseas members visiting Korea. Side events showcased various activities such as IWBA, ASEZ WAO (the Church of God’s Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group), and the Overseas Culture Experience Team, all of which were met with great enthusiasm.
During the opening worship service, Mother commended the young adult members for investing their energy and passion both inside and outside the workplace, offering them wholehearted support and encouragement. She reminded them that young adulthood is a time to put into practice what they have learned, saying, “God gives strength to those who work. Let us embody the virtues of the prophets, such as David’s courage and Peter’s faithfulness, and above all, follow the example of our Father to lead the world with the light of truth. Be great prophets who guide fearful souls, troubled by an uncertain future, to God” (Rev 3:9–11; 1 Pe 5:7–9; Isa 60:1–4, 14).
General Pastor Kim Joo-cheol encouraged them by saying, “Since God is helping us, believe that there is no failure for us. Reflect on what we should live for within God, and prepare for the future with a sense of responsibility. If you set the right goals and pursue them with courage, you will achieve your vision” (Isa 43:1–7).
During the subsequent awards ceremony, recognition was given in five categories, including top performers from IWBA for the 2023 academic year and churches with outstanding ASEZ WAO volunteer service results. Domestic awardees took the stage to receive their honors. Additionally, awardees from overseas churches in the United States, Peru, Malaysia, South Africa, New Zealand, and other countries were recognized, bringing the total to 52 individuals and 10 churches honored.
The third part of the event, the entrance ceremony, featured the 2023 IWBA year-end summary and presentations of outstanding Work Mission [WM] activity examples. The activities of IWBA members, who focus on fulfilling their roles at work while spreading God’s love through good deeds and brightening the world with ASEZ WAO volunteer efforts, garnered significant attention. The special video, featuring individuals who used their vacations to travel to various countries, engage with people around the world, and grow both as members of society and believers, also inspired the attendees and boosted their enthusiasm. Mother praised the efforts of these young people as a “New Acts” and reiterated blessings by saying, “Let us continue to please God by practicing the teachings of the Bible with faith.”
Sister Daniela Miricioiu, a military service member from New Windsor, NY, U.S., said, “As I am about to be assigned to Germany, I’ve gained much inspiration and courage on how to convey Mother’s love to the new co-workers I will meet.” She expressed her joy and excitement about the opportunity. Sister Shin Ye-rim from Mungyeong, Korea, who is about to start a job as a nurse, said, “I am concerned about the high workload and shift work, but I’m encouraged by the IWBA seniors who have walked this path before me. I’m determined to diligently practice God’s love in my workplace and bear good fruit for the gospel.” Brother Seo Ho-yeon from Boryeong, Korea, who works in the service industry, said, “The IWBA education, grounded in the Teachings of Mother, is a great guide for workplace life. By putting what I’ve learned into practice, the atmosphere at work has significantly improved.” He added, “I will also share the joy of faith and the hope of heaven with my co-workers.”
The attendees pledged to become worker prophets by applying their learning both inside and outside the church and workplace, by leading positive changes for themselves and those around them. They took their first steps toward Chapter 2 of the book of New Acts, set against the backdrop of the world.
