Instead of Waiting for a Time and Opportunity
Wei Wei from Philadelphia, PA, USA
While I often visited my aunt to preach the gospel, I came to have a good relationship with one of her friends. When I found out that our offices were near each other’s, I suggested that we have lunch together. Her character was so gentle and nice. When we talked about this and that during lunch, I sensed she had curiosity about the spiritual world and God as well.
As the Passover drew near, the university students in Zion organized a Bible seminar and I invited quite many friends to the seminar, but among them, she was the only one who gladly agreed to come. She seemed to enjoy the seminar, saying that the presenters did a good job. After the seminar was over, she also had friendly conversations with some of the sisters there.
As the Passover drew nearer, I gave her an invitation to the Passover, and told her that I wanted to keep the Passover with her. She seemed happy to receive the invitation but said she had a really busy schedule. Afterwards, I thought I should invite her to come to church again, but was hesitant, worrying she might find it disturbing if I kept asking her to come when she was busy.
One month later, there was another event in Zion. I met a sister from another Zion who happened to talk to my aunt’s friend during the Bible seminar. When she saw me, she asked, “When will you bring her again? She’s so gentle and kind just like our sister.”
At that moment, I plucked up my courage and called her. She said the only time she would be free during that week was the following day, and that she would come in the evening after her work.
The next day, she came to Zion as promised. Though it was late at night, she received the truth with a humble mind. The sister carefully studied the Bible and even kept early morning services during the Prayer Week of the Pentecost.
Later, she told me she had been looking for a church and the true God for a long time, praying to God herself. When she had heard my aunt misunderstand our church, she had said, “If Wei Wei goes to that church, it shouldn’t be a bad church. I believe seeing is better than hearing, so I want to go to her church to take a look.” After attending the Bible seminar, she even introduced our church to my aunt, saying, “This church teaches everything from the Bible.”
Heavenly Mother must have heard the sister’s earnest prayer to look for the true God and sent me to her. When I was hesitating to lead her to Zion, how anxious Mother must have felt!
Jesus said to His disciples, “It is not for you to know the times or dates,” and asked them to just preach even to the ends of the earth as His witnesses (Ac 1:7–8). Through this sister, I’ve realized I ought to preach diligently anytime, anywhere, rather than hesitating and waiting for a proper time and opportunity. Then God will allow me to meet our lost heavenly family at a moment when I do not expect.
