On May 14, ahead of World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8), 440 members of the East Gyeongbuk Church Region carried out the “Erasing Plastic Footprints” campaign along the Geumho River, which flows through Yeongcheon City. Members from Yeongcheon, Pohang, Gyeongsan, Gyeongju, Yeongdeok, and Uljin walked six kilometers (3.7 mile) along the riverside, collecting about one metric ton of trash. Among the waste, plastic debris alone amounted to approximately 1,000 liters in volume.

Local officials, including Kim Yong-mun, Yeongcheon City Councilor, and Cho Nam-cheol, Head of Dongbu-dong, also visited the site. Yoon Seung-oh, Gyeongbuk Provincial Councilor, encouraged the volunteers, saying, “It’s admirable to see everyone taking part in volunteer work so actively despite the hot weather.”
