On June 23, more than 40 members of ASEZ, the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group, at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in the U.S., launched the ASEZ Blue Carbon (ABC) Movement.
The members gathered at North Avenue Beach on Lake Michigan to raise environmental awareness among citizens. They held a panel exhibition about the importance of carbon neutrality and blue carbon, which contributes to achieving carbon neutrality. Blue carbon refers to carbon absorbed by marine ecosystems such as seas, wetlands, and mangrove forests. Following the panel exhibition, the members cleaned up a one-kilometer (0.62 mi) section, successfully completing the activity.
