On June 26, about 1,000 people, including members from 19 Churches of God in the Daegu region and local residents, gathered at Geumho Riverside Park in Daegu Metropolitan City to carry out the Erasing Plastic Footprints campaign in celebration of World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8). Lee Tae-hoon, Head of Dalseo District, and Kim Joo-beom, a member of the Daegu City Council, also visited the site to encourage the volunteers. Participants collected about 1,120 kilograms (2,470 lbs) of plastic and other waste—including disposable cups, PET bottles, and pipes—that had been carelessly discarded along the riverside, taking the lead in protecting the river ecosystem.

Church members held up “Plastic Zero” placards made from recycled cardboard, encouraging citizens to join efforts to protect the environment. They also organized a panel exhibition to raise awareness of the seriousness of plastic pollution. About 280 citizens listened attentively to the volunteers’ explanations and expressed their support for the initiative by signing a pledge of agreement.
