At two separate ceremonies held on January 15 and February 16 at the Seoul Metropolitan City Council Chamber, a total of 14 and 46 churches respectively were honored with awards.
During the ceremony on February 16, Deputy Chairman Woo Hyung-chan of Seoul Metropolitan City Council congratulated the churches. He expressed, “As those who are giving awards, we are honored because we are well aware of how devotedly the Church of God has served and inspired the citizens in Seoul.” He emphasized, “Both the citizens of Seoul and the nation will continue to hold high expectations for the Church of God.”
The members of the Churches in Seoul area have been engaged in various volunteer activities throughout the region for nearly 40 years since the establishment of the first Church of God in Seoul in the early 1980s. They have conducted large-scale cleanup in major locations such as Yeouido Hangang Park and Gwanak Mountain to raise environmental awareness, as well as regularly organizing street cleanup around each church to keep the local communities clean and bright. When disasters such as heavy snowstorms and torrential rains struck, they promptly engaged in emergency relief efforts. During the landslide on Mount Umyeon in 2011, members in Gangnam area performed the discover efforts for the National Gugak Center and nearby residential complexes affected by the disaster. Additionally, they spread warmth and love to their neighbors through various volunteer activities such as blood drives, sharing kimchi with underprivileged neighbors, and visiting welfare facilities.
Starting the new year with joyous news of consecutive awards, members in Seoul area were determined to continue serving their neighbors as the salt and light of the world in 2024, following the teachings of God Elohim, to create a better world.
