“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
After Jesus said His last request and ascended, His disciples leave the Mount of Olives and return to Jerusalem.
They go upstairs to the attic where they have been staying, and they all join together constantly in prayer.
After ten days, the Day of Pentecost comes. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind comes from heaven and fills the whole house, and what seemed to be tongues of fire separate and come to rest on each of them. It happens just as Jesus said, “The Holy Spirit comes on you.”
After praying earnestly with one accord and one mind, the apostles received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost and boldly preached the gospel, testifying about Jesus Christ. As a result, there was a remarkable work in which three thousand people repented each day and received the Savior.
For those who prayed with one mind and received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, the history of the apostolic age is no longer a mere dream. The prophecy, “The gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations,” is being fulfilled evidently in this age, just as the gospel of the new covenant was preached in Jerusalem and other foreign countries beyond Israel in the early Church days. With one mind and one will, let us all boldly testify about the Savior of this age as those who have received the Holy Spirit.
