Cleaning the Wardrobe

“Whew! This wardrobe really needs sorting.”

I had opened the wardrobe to pick out clothes for the next day, only to find everything tangled in a chaotic heap. With moving day fast approaching, I had put off organizing, and now my wardrobe looked like a battlefield.

“All right. Let’s do this.”

I took a deep breath and began pulling out every piece of clothing. I had often complained that I had nothing to wear, yet here was a mountain of clothes spilling out before me. Staring at the pile, jaw slack, I began sorting through the mess of spring, summer, fall, and winter—all jumbled together.

“So this is where this ended up.”

As I uncovered items I hadn’t worn in ages, I hesitated. What should I do with them? They had once been favorites, so I’d kept them around “just in case.” But now, they looked outdated; the colors faded, and the styles no longer mine. I hung up what I still wore and carefully folded the out-of-season clothes into boxes, neatly sorted by season. Looking at the now tidy wardrobe, I felt a wave of relief. No more frantic digging to find what I need.

Then a quiet thought passed through me: what about my spiritual wardrobe? Was it also cluttered—tangled in garments of resentment, envy, jealousy, and complaint? Perhaps it’s time to toss those out too. I want only the clothing of joy, love, and gratitude to remain. So when the day comes, I’ll be beautifully dressed in attire fit for heaven.
