When I was little, I loved playing with my dad. I loved floating in a swim ring with him in a valley stream, riding on his shoulders, and feeling the thrill of the airplane ride he gave me as he lifted me into the air on his feet.

Things changed when I became a teenager. My dad’s concern began to annoy me, and I often felt that he was interfering in my life. We disagreed on many things, and over time, we talked less and grew apart. After I became an adult and moved away from home, I rarely kept in touch with him.

Perhaps concerned about how distant I had become from my dad, my mother arranged for the two of us to spend some time together. His hair was now streaked with gray, and more wrinkles lined his face. The more we talked alone, the more my negative feelings toward him faded, and I began to feel sorry for how I had treated him.

Even now, I am still the same daughter I have always been, not very expressive or affectionate. Yet my dad always worries that I might be having a hard time living so far away from home.

I wonder how Heavenly Father feels as He looks upon me. Our Father has patiently waited for His child, who turned away from Him without understanding the hearts of our Heavenly Parents.

Though I could never fully repay Father for the abundant grace and love I have received from Him, I will always give thanks to Him and devote myself to the gospel so that I may bring Him joy. I sincerely thank Father for always surrounding me with His love.
