The World Mission Society Church of God Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group [ASEZ WAO] signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asia Climate Change Education Center (hereinafter the Climate Education Center) to cooperate for the Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs]. The Climate Education Center was established in 2007 and has been operated by the Ministry of Environment and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to nurture global leaders who can respond to the climate crisis.

On July 16, the MOU signing ceremony was held at the Church of God in Jeju in presence of about 50 people, including ASEZ WAO members and officials from the Climate Education Center. ASEZ WAO Director Kim Yong-gap and Climate Education Center Director Jeong Dae-yeon signed the “Agreement for the Achievement of the SDGs.” ASEZ WAO and the Climate Education Center will cooperate to implement the eight agreements: educational support, response to climate change, reducing plastics, protecting terrestrial ecosystems, and protecting marine ecosystems for the co-existence of mankind and the earth and that of the present and future generations. The two parties also agreed to host annual environmental volunteer work in Jeju Island, where the Climate Education Center is located.

Director Kim Yong-gap said that ASEZ WAO would carry out the climate action more systematically and extensively by nurturing global environmental leaders in partnership with the Climate Education Center. Director Jeong Dae-yeon said, “We are happy to work together for the common goal of saving the earth.” He expressed his excitement for their future joint activities.

On the same day, ASEZ WAO members in Jeju visited Sasu Port and cleaned it. Despite the inclement weather, the members cleaned a two-kilometer section where a residential area and the coastal road meet. ASEZ WAO member Lee Jae-hyeon (a high school teacher) said, “I feel proud that we’ve cleaned up the shore where the trash was littered. If the whole world works together like this, we will surely be able to solve environmental problems.”

The solidarity between ASEZ WAO, which has more than 50,000 members nationwide and worldwide, and the Climate Education Center, an educational institution specializing in climate change, is expected to bring a great synergy effect for the environment due to their collaboration of the huge community of young adult voluntary group and the knowledge of the specialized expertise.
