God can surely appear in the human form if He wants. God is omnipotent and omniscient. God has the power to choose to be or not to be in the flesh.
Then, why did God Himself come to the earth as a fragile baby and son? We can easily understand this when we think of who we are.
Christ came to give us forgiveness of sins and eternal life
Jesus said that all human beings living on this earth are sinners expelled from heaven.
“… For I have not come to call [seek] the righteous, but sinners.” Mt 9:13
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Lk 19:10
Relating these verses with the words, “The wages of sin is death” (Ro 6:23), we can understand that all the human beings are sinners who committed sins deserving the death penalty in heaven. The first reason that Jesus Himself came to this earth in the flesh is to be punished instead of us for our sins deserving death.
According to the law of the Old Testament, in order to set free a man who was supposed to die, somebody had to take his sin instead (1 Ki 20:42). That’s why God came in the name of Jesus and was sacrificed on the cross as the sin offering for sinners. By being punished with the death sentence instead of us, he saved us from punishment.
“just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mt 20:28
Since Jesus, who is God, came with this purpose, John the Baptist testified that Jesus is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world (Jn 1:29). The Prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament and the Apostle Paul in the New Testament, too, testified that Christ came in the flesh and took away our sins.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all … Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. Isa 53:5–10
For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, Ro 8:3
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh … Ro 8:3 [NASB]
The special law, established by God’s own blood for us to be forgiven of our sins and reach eternal life, is the Passover of the new covenant (Lk 22:20).
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Mt 26:28
The Passover of the new covenant is the truth of life, which God Himself established to save us who could not avoid eternal punishment because of our sins.
Christ showed us the example of being born again through the gospel
The reason that God came to the earth in the flesh is not only to sacrifice Himself as the sin offering, but also to teach and preach the gospel of the new covenant which would be accomplished through His sacrifice—the truth that grants us the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
“I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” Jn 13:15
Jesus went to many regions of Israel, and preached the gospel of the kingdom of heaven, suffering many difficulties. All the teachings and the gospel that Jesus taught for three years are the examples of faith for us, who will become the heirs of heaven in the future. That’s why after Jesus finished His work of the gospel to seek and save sinners, He asked His disciples to teach all nations to obey everything He had commanded (Mt 28:20).
Needless to say, the gospel which Jesus practiced is the truth that leads us to eternal kingdom of heaven (Jn 14:6). There are numerous examples that Jesus showed in order for us to be forgiven of sins and to enter heaven.
Jesus was baptized to show us the principle of being born again with a new life by burying sin, though He was sinless (Mt 3:16). Jesus also taught that we should keep the feasts of the new covenant to enter heaven, by keeping the Sabbath day as was His custom (Lk 4:16), celebrating the Passover of the new covenant with His disciples (Mt 26:17–28), and promising the water of life on the Feast of Tabernacles (Jn 7:2, 37).
Besides feasts and regulations, Jesus showed the example of the true Shepherd (Lk 22:24–27; Jn 10:11–15) by serving His disciples with a gentle and humble heart (Mt 11:29). Also, in order to teach the way to overcome the temptations of Satan to us who are weak, He Himself was tempted and defeated Satan with the word of God (Mt 4:1–11). Like this, all the examples of Jesus are recorded in the Bible in detail so that we may follow them. Jesus’ life itself is the manual guiding people to the kingdom of heaven.
The authority to forgive, which only belongs to God
Eventually, the reason Almighty God came in the flesh was because of us, the sinners of heaven.
The only way for a sinner to be released from sin is to be forgiven of the sin. But we, sinners, can never achieve it by our own righteousness or power.
Even through the earthly principle we can understand. In a country that has the death penalty, generally, a death-row inmate can be forgiven only by the head of the country such as the president or the prime minister. It is the same with our spiritual sins. The death-deserving sins that we committed in heaven can be forgiven only by God.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them … “But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins …” Mk 2:5–10
God came in the flesh to save us through His authority to forgive sins. As we have flesh and blood, God, too, shared in our humanity, suffered our pain, and carried the burden of sins which we should have taken.
“… I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Jn 10:10
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Heb 2:14–15
If there were someone else who could give life, God had no reason to come in the flesh. Eternal life, however, can be given by nobody, even if he is an angel, but only by God.
God, the only One who has eternal life in the whole universe, came in the flesh, leaving all the glory of heaven behind, to give life to His children who lost their lives because of their sins, and established the truth of the Passover of the new covenant by which we can receive eternal life (1 Ti 6:16). But the Passover of the new covenant, which was established by the blood of Christ, was abolished in AD 325. Since then, nobody has been able to reveal the Passover for a long time of 1,600 years. Though it is clearly written in the Bible, nobody among countless theologians and famous Bible scholars could find the truth of the Passover. It is because they, too, are mere sinners of heaven, not God who has the authority to forgive death-deserving sins and give eternal life.
To restore the Passover of the new covenant, the lost truth of life, God has come in the flesh once again in this age. They are our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother. Even with one token—the Passover of the new covenant, we can confirm that Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother are the true God. As we have received God Elohim who has come in the flesh in this age according to the sure prophecies of the Bible, we should preach God’s love contained in the Passover of the new covenant more diligently, thinking that Almighty God Themselves have come to the earth in the human likeness that is lower than the angels only to forgive us of our sins.
