Jesus’ disciples tried to heal a demon-possessed boy, but they could not. When they were arguing with the teachers of the law about this, they saw Jesus and ran to Him. The crowd also gathered around Him.

“What are you arguing with them about?”

Then a man in the crowd answered.

“Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit.”

From childhood, the boy’s life had been in danger many times; the spirit had often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. The boy’s father asked Jesus’ disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not. So he begged Jesus.

“If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

“ ‘If you can’? Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Astonished at the words of Jesus, the boy’s father immediately exclaimed.

“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Jesus cast the demon out of the boy. As he was lying like a corpse, Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.

The boy’s father said, “If you can do anything,” because he thought that Jesus might fail. He came to Jesus because he believed in Him, but he inadvertently revealed his doubtful mind.

Only after hearing the words of Jesus did he realize that he was double-minded. Then he immediately asked Jesus to help him overcome his unbelief and to fill him with faith. His wish was fulfilled immediately.

If you earnestly wish for something, you first need to believe that God will surely fulfill it. If you find it hard to have faith, full of worries and anxieties, you should also ask God for help. Let us confess our faith honestly and have firm faith. Everything is possible for the person who believes.
