Environmental Preservation

The earth is the home to all life
created by God for mankind

The environment we are living in is the home of all life. In order to purify the earth that fell ill due to extreme climate change and environmental pollution and to save precious life, we carry out global environmental cleanups. Under the goal, “Let’s clean our neighborhood, region, and the whole global village for a happy world!” we constantly carry out cleanups in streets and parks, and near streams, rivers, seas, and hills. As time passes year after year, the awareness of environmental protection has improved and people’s participation has increased.

Forest of Hope Campaign

We carry out the “Forest of Hope” campaign to restore healthy forest ecosystems and build a sustainable global environment. Connecting our efforts with international observances such as the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22), World Environment Day (June 5), World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (June 17), World Soil Day (December 5), and International Mountain Day (December 11), we conduct green conservation activities aligned with the seasons of each country.

Through various activities—such as collecting forest waste and flammable materials, preventing wildfires, planting trees, and removing invasive species—we help create “forests of hope.” We also raise awareness of the need to protect green spaces by reading the Intergenerational Joint Declaration and hosting panel exhibitions. In cooperation with local governments, we carry out “Fallen Leaf Recycling and Resource Circulation Activities,” gathering fallen leaves and repurposing them into compost or biofuel, thereby contributing to healthy soil and forest ecosystems.

The “Forest of Hope” campaign has developed from the forest conservation initiatives the Church of God has carried out since 2003. As of November 2025, more than 67,000 people across 39 countries have participated in these conservation activities, planting over 95,000 trees and collecting approximately 162,000 kilograms (357,149 lbs) of household waste.

“Beyond 365 Days”

366 Hope Footprints Campaign

We carry out the “366 Hope Footprints” campaign, a global initiative that encourages people around the world to leave “hope footprints” instead of carbon footprints through simple actions in daily life. The campaign promotes continuous participation—“beyond 365 days”—and invites everyone to care for Earth, our shared planet, with the heart of Mother, who nurtures and protects life.

Individuals, churches, and local communities work together to practice three to five actions aligned with the theme of each international environmental day, such as World Water Day (March 22), International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies (September 7), World Soil Day (December 5), and International Mountain Day (December 11). These actions include using tumblers, recycling, conserving energy and water, reducing food waste, and saving paper.

From June 2024 to June 2025, the “366 Hope Footprints” campaign engaged more than 440,000 participants across 39 countries each quarter, achieving an estimated carbon reduction of approximately 3.58 million kilograms (7.89 million lbs).

Improvement of Street Environment

We clean streets, parks, playgrounds, markets, and shopping districts, where we spend our time every day, so that our families and neighbors can stay healthy. We collect not only litter on the streets, but also garbage hidden at corners and in parks. Clean streets and pleasant parks make passersby feel fresh.

Improvement of Forest Environment

We carry out cleanups and forest protection campaigns to preserve forests which purify air, prevent disasters like floods and landslides, and provide rest areas. Citizens and mountain hikers encourage us and participate in the cleanups.

Improvement of Water Environment

Water is the source of life. Keeping water is no different from saving human life. For the health and future of the present generation and our descendants, we collect trash that pollutes streams, rivers, and the sea to keep them clean.

Environmental Seminars

We hold environment forums, talk concerts, and seminars to raise awareness of global climate change and other environmental issues and to carry out practical activities. Through this, we make known the importance of environmental preservation and change the public perception of the environment.

Environmental Campaigns

Environmental protection is what we must do together. We have campaigns such as “No Litter,” “Reduce Disposables,” and “Reduce Plastics” to cope with climate change and prevent environmental pollution.

Protection of Ecosystem

We make efforts to protect the ecosystem of forests by removing harmful plants which inhibit growth of native plants, and to protect the ecosystem in rivers and the sea. We carry out diverse activities to restore ecosystems and keep nature healthy by planting trees, weeding, feeding migratory birds, and using EM soil balls.

Environmental Beautification

A clean environment is the base of a bright and healthy life. We beautify local environments by removing graffiti, painting murals, and planting flowers along the wayside.
