A reporter once asked Leonard Bernstein, the world-famous conductor:
“Maestro, what is the most difficult instrument to conduct?”
Bernstein answered thoughtfully:
“The second instrument. Without a second instrument to harmonize with the principal instrument, beautiful music would be forever impossible. Yet it is rare to find someone who plays the second instrument with the same pride and passion as the one who plays the principal instrument.”
