In which of the following situations does food taste the best?
- ① When the customer and the cook cannot see each other
- ② When the customer can see the cook, but the cook cannot see the customer
- ③ When the cook can see the customer, but the customer cannot see the cook
- ④ When both the cook and the customer can see each other
Research teams from Harvard University of the United States and University College London of the United Kingdom had an experiment based on the above four situations. The customer’s satisfactory for Cases Number ① and ② was similar, and it was 10% higher for Case Number ③. And for Number ④ it was 17.3% higher, and the service was 13.2% was faster.
Then, what is the reason that the food is cooked more deliciously when the cook can see the customer. The research teams analyzed that “the cook feels more proud when they can confirm with their eyes that the food they cooked with their effort and sincerity pleases someone, and that it motivates them to provide better food and service.”
It doesn’t only apply to cooks. If anyone knows the value of what they do and feels proud of it, the efficiency of the work enhances. Whether it is for customers or family members, it will be a strong motivation to think of the person who will feel pleased by what they are doing.
