Service in Truth and Blessing

Service is noble and valuable, but if we do not know the truth, God’s blessing is not promised to our service. However, God’s abundant blessings are promised to us when we serve in the truth. Now, let us look at God’s teachings to see with what kind of heart we should serve to receive even more blessings.

1. As One Who Serves

The word service refers to the act of serving others with respect. Since the high cannot serve the low, to serve, one must position themselves lower than others. Jesus, who is God in nature, came in the flesh and took the form of a servant, setting an example of obedience and service (Lk 22:26–27). We must remember Jesus’s teachings and wholeheartedly serve God and our brothers and sisters from the position of a servant. If we live serving in truth, we will receive God’s blessings and glory in heaven.

2. With a Faithful Heart Even in Small Tasks

God has taught us that those who are faithful with little will also be faithful with much (Lk 16:10). This principle applies to service as well. Service that requires a lot of material and time investment is not necessarily the only good service. Even in tasks that may seem small, if done with a faithful heart, we can receive many blessings from God.

For example, let’s think about some of the services we can do on a worship day. Escorting brothers and sisters to Zion, welcoming them with joy and kindness, cleaning and beautifying the sanctuary, comforting those who are wounded in body and spirit, praying for the brothers and sisters, sharing the word with them, and so on. There are many different services we can offer. As God said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much,” let us serve with a faithful heart in even the smallest tasks and bring joy to God as His children.

3. With the Talents Given by God

Whether it is musical talent, writing ability, teaching skills, or any other talents and strengths we possess, including health, material resources, or our titles, they are all gifts from God. God has granted us these talents for the purpose of working for and serving Him. Let us not forget that everything we have comes from God (1 Co 4:7), but use our talents to work for and serve God.

4. With Humility and the Spirit of Sacrifice

Without humility and sacrificial mindset, it is easy to fall into arrogance no matter what we do. Serving with an arrogant heart can never be genuine service and often leads to conflicts. Only service done with love, sacrifice, and humility is pleasing to God. True service brings unity among brothers and sisters, and it also brings great blessings and grace to oneself.

God has said that whoever gives even a cup of cold water to brothers and sisters will never lose their reward (Mt 10:42). This means that even the smallest act of service for the church and our brothers and sisters will be rewarded with great blessings. We should remember this promise of God and make every effort to serve with a joyful heart. Furthermore, we should serve with genuine and true dedication, with a heart filled with gratitude to God who has granted us salvation.
