On a Rainy Day

One day, we decided to hold a cleanup around the campus with brothers and sisters who attend the same college. We were a little worried because of the bad weather, but we decided to do the cleanup as we’d planned. We picked up not only the trash on the street but also pieces of trash hidden in flower beds and among trees. It was the street that I walked on every day. I regretted having passed by it without paying attention to it.

As time goes by, the rain and wind got stronger. Not to mention our pants and shoes, our hair got wet because the hoods of our rain coats came off by the wind. It was also difficult to pick up the wet trash as it stuck to the ground. We tied up the hoods to the rain coats, and started picking up the trash with our hands instead of tongs. All the wet wastepaper and flyers were quite heavy when gathered. My arm hurt, but I felt proud after the cleanup, walking on the clean street. The brothers and sisters didn’t look as neat as when they first gathered, but their beautiful smiles were the same.

I was happy as if I gave a good day to pedestrians. I want to feel that again.
