Mother’s Teaching No. 7
“Arrogance arises from a heart full of complaint. When we always serve God with gratitude, arrogance and complaint disappear, and humility will dwell in our hearts.”
Complaint is having dissatisfaction in our heart. Those who don’t know how to be content come to complain. No matter how much God prepares favorable situations, rather than giving thanks to God, they always see negative points first. Mother said, “Arrogance comes from a mind full of complaint.” We complain when we think, ‘That is not the way,’ ‘My way is much better than that,’ or ‘He shouldn’t treat me like this.’ From these complains, arrogance forms in our heart and we think, ‘I am better than everybody.’ Since arrogance leads our soul into destruction, we should make every effort not to complain in any situation.
Then, what should we do to avoid complaining? We should always serve God with gratitude in our heart. Complaint comes from dissatisfaction, and gratitude comes from satisfaction. We were expelled from Heaven after committing grievous sins. However, God forgave our unforgiveable sin and granted us salvation and the eternal Kingdom of Heaven through Their sacrifice. When we think about Their grace and blessings for us, we should be content and always give thanks to God in all circumstances. We should be content not only in favorable situations where we can easily give thanks, but also in unfavorable situations.
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Th 5:16–18
We need to understand that God is making us complete beings by refining us through various circumstances. If we fail to realize this and grumble, we will neither become the complete nor enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In everything, there is the will of God who leads us to Heaven. When we understand this, we will not complain. Expressing our gratitude, a thousand or ten thousand times will not be enough. Let us give thanks to God in all circumstances. When we do so, complaint and arrogance disappear from us according to Mother’s word, and we will be born again with a humble heart and receive abundant blessings from God.
