ASEZ Members at the National University of Timor-Leste Clean Up a Beach Near Largo de Lecidere

On January 18, approximately 40 ASEZ members at the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL) and local residents carried out a beach cleanup near Largo de Lecidere. ASEZ is the Church of God University Student Volunteer Group. The cleanup aimed to remove litter that could wash into the ocean and damage blue carbon¹ ecosystems. The participants collected approximately 260 kilograms (573 pounds) of litter scattered across the beach, including plastic water bottles, beverage cans, and plastic bags.

1. Blue carbon refers to carbon absorbed and stored by coastal and marine ecosystems, including tidal flats, mangrove forests, and seagrass beds.
