Prayer is a spiritual conversation with God. We must firmly believe in the existence of God and pray with all our heart and mind, believing that He will give us what we ask for.
Let’s understand how we should pray.
1) Seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness
If we ask for something from our selfish desires or against God’s will, it is like a child who asks for a knife or a gun. Instead, we should pray according to the will of God.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…” Mt 6:33
2) Believing that God will give us what we ask for
A faithless prayer has no life. We must firmly believe in the existence of God since prayer is a spiritual conversation with God. Praying with doubt differs greatly from praying with conviction. Praying with doubt is like ringing a broken doorbell; no matter how many times you ring it, no one will answer.
But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord: he is a double–minded man, unstable in all he does. Jas 1:6–8
3) Wholeheartedly
Prayer is very important. Since God, who is most holy, receives our prayer, we should pray earnestly with all our heart and mind.
… And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Lk 22:39–44
We should live a life of prayer, remembering that prayer is our spiritual conversation with God. In whatever we do, we should start with prayer, proceed with prayer, and conclude with prayer. As God’s people, let’s always pray with a sincere and earnest heart, believing that God will certainly hear and answer us.
