When they approach Jerusalem, Jesus sends two disciples to the village.
“Go to the village ahead of you and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’ Then he will let you take it.”
When the disciples go into the village, there is a little colt tied there on the street just as Jesus said. As the disciples untie the colt and try to lead it, a man there asks, “Why are you untying the colt?”
“The Lord said He needs it.”
The owner allows them to take the colt at their answer. Then Jesus goes to Jerusalem on the little colt that has been brought by the disciples.
Knowing the time for Him to suffer on the cross was close, Jesus asked the disciples to bring the little colt to Him. It was to fulfill the prophecy of Prophet Zechariah, “When the king, who grants salvation, enters Jerusalem, he will ride on the little colt” (Zec 9:9). Both the weak colt and the ordinary owner who let them take the colt at the words, “The Lord needs it,” were used in fulfilling the prophecy.
We are called by God to fulfill the words, “This gospel of the kingdom will be preached to the whole world as a testimony to all nations (Mt 24:14).” Very ordinary beings are being used as a gospel tool for the Bible’s prophecy that will surely be fulfilled. Is there any greater blessing than this? The only thing we can do as those who’ve received such overwhelming blessing is to obey God more humbly so that we may become tools worthy of God’s use.
