At the news that the Moabites and the Ammonites with some of the Meunites are coming to make war against Judah, King Jehoshaphat proclaims a fast for all Judah. The people have gathered in the temple of God, and Jehoshaphat stands in the front of the new courtyard to pray.

“O God, you rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are here to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. We have no power to face them. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.”

Then the Spirit of God comes upon Jahaziel, a Levite, in the assembly.

“Listen, all of you and King Jehoshaphat! This is what God says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Go out to face them tomorrow, and see how I will deliver you. I will be with you.’ ”

When the people of Judah leave for the desert early in the morning, Jehoshaphat stands and says, “Have faith in God and you will win for sure.”

After consulting his people, Jehoshaphat appoints men to sing in holy attire and lets them go out at the head of the army. As they begin to sing and praise, God sets ambushes against the enemies and they were defeated. Then they fight against each other, which lead to their self-destruction. The news spreads to all the kingdoms of the land; all the Gentiles fear God and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is at peace.

Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah didn’t know what to do, far from having the ability to confront the strong enemies. Their only hope was God. The Israelites relied entirely on God and were able to win a great victory against a number of enemies without even paying a small price.

When we face unbearable trials, let us not be discouraged, even though we do not have any power to change the situation and do not know how to overcome it. Let us rely on God who leads all works, and ask for help without complaining. As long as God is with us, we can overcome all our fears.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”Isa 41:10
