On June 22, the Churches in Chicago and Bloomingdale, Illinois, U.S., carried out the “Forest of Hope” campaign in observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22) and World Environment Day (June 5). The campaign was organized to help address the climate crisis by keeping forests, one of the planet’s largest carbon sinks, clean and healthy. With support from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, which provided gloves, litter pickers, and trash bags, around 60 church members and local citizens gathered at Mallard Lake Forest Preserve. Beginning at 10 a.m., participants spent about 2 hours collecting 115 kg of trash.
