What Kind of Words Should We Speak? (2)

We will continue to look into the kinds of words God wants us to speak.

1. Words of thanks

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Eph 5:3–4

The Bible teaches us that we should speak words of thanks. God Himself came down to this earth to save our souls that were destined to die, by forgiving all of our sins, and He is leading us to Heaven full of joy, without death or pain. Thinking of this grace and salvation, we should always speak words of thanks in our daily life.

2. Proper words at the proper time

A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word! Pr 15:23

A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Pr 25:11

God said that the proper word at the proper time is beautiful. He also teaches us that proper words are valuable like “apples of gold in a setting of silver.” He emphasized the importance of speaking proper words. No matter how fundamentally correct it may seem, speaking words at the improper time can hurt others’ feelings and cause quarreling. Let us become wise children who give glory to God and bring joy to those around us by speaking the proper words at the proper time in the appropriate situation.

3. Words glorifying God

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ro 15:5—6

We should always glorify and praise God. Among all our accomplishments, there is nothing we achieved with our own strength. We were able to do all things because God granted us favorable situations and circumstances, and helped us. Therefore, we should give thanks and glory to God, who always helps us. We should also glorify God to receive blessings.

Among Mother’s Teachings, the second one is, “When we glorify God, the glory returns to us.” It is absolutely necessary for us to glorify God, however, God said He would return the glory to us. How thankful we should be! We should remember God’s teaching and always receive God’s blessing by speaking words glorifying God.
