Bible Q&A
Questions that arise in your mind will be answered through the Bible.
Why did Jesus come in the human form though He is Almighty God?
God can surely appear in the human form if He wants. God is omnipotent and omniscient. God has the power to choose to be or not to be in the flesh. Then, why did God Himself come to the earth as a fragile baby and son? We can easily understand…
There are many people in the world who claim to follow Jesus. Why is it, then, that they do not keep the new covenant Jesus established?
The purpose of Jesus’ coming to this earth is to give eternal life to human beings who are destined to die because of their sins. In order to lead us to salvation, Jesus established the new covenant on the day of the Passover and became a sin offering for us,…
The Biblical Sabbath Is Saturday. Then, Why Do Most Churches Worship on Sunday?
It is clear that the Biblical Sabbath is Saturday, the seventh day of the week. The early Church kept the Sabbath day holy according to the teachings of the Bible (Ac 17:2; 18:4). Then, why do most churches today worship on Sunday? Let's find out the reason. Sunday and Roman…
The Bible says that Jesus will come in clouds or in blazing fire when He comes to this earth again. Does it mean that He will come in clouds and judge the world with fire?
Most Christians think that the day of the Last Judgment is the day when Jesus, who came as the Savior 2,000 years ago, comes to this earth again. They commonly imagine the scene where Jesus comes on the clouds floating in the sky and execute judgment by fire immediately and the saved people enter the kingdom of heaven. However, the Bible does not teach that. Jesus’ coming in clouds and His coming in blazing fire The appearance of Jesus who comes on the clouds is different from that of Jesus who appears in blazing fire. So, the time and purpose of His first coming is also different from those of His second coming. “At that time the sign of the…
Each religion has a different point of view on the afterlife. What does the Bible say about it?
People have wanted to know about the afterlife for a long time, but there has been no way to know about it clearly. So, they have imagined the afterlife in their own way and have created countless religions. Confucianism insists that the human soul temporarily survives after death and then perishes. Buddhism insists that people transmigrate in the Six Realms when they die. Islam imitates Christianity and insists that there is a heaven and hell. However, that is it—they cannot give any evidence to support their insistence. Then, what does the Bible tell us? Through numerous prophecies and their fulfillments, God has clearly testified that the Bible is fact, and based upon the foundation of His testimony He has clearly…
The name Jesus is not found in the Old Testament even once. Then, how could Jesus’ disciples recognize Him as Christ and believe Him?
In the Old Testament, there is no word “Jesus,” the name of the Christ who is to come in the New Testament. Even if the name “Jesus” were prophesied, we would not be convinced that a man is Christ just because his name is Jesus; it is because the name “Jesus” was common among the Jews (Col 4:11). Therefore, the name Jesus is not absolute evidence through which we can believe that Jesus is Christ. The most convincing evidence is the work which Jesus fulfilled according to the prophecies of the Old Testament about Christ. For this, Jesus said that it is the “Bible [Scriptures]” that testifies about Him as Christ. “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that…
We call the Holy Spirit “God,” and we also say that they receive the Holy Spirit during the feasts. How can we define the Holy Spirit?
There are many cases in the Bible that one word is used for different meanings. For example, when we look for the word “law” in the New Testament, the law fundamentally indicates the Ten Commandments which were given in the time of Moses or detailed explanations related to them (Ro 7:7; Jas 2:11; Jn 8:5, 17). However, sometimes it refers to the Pentateuch including the law or even the entire Old Testament (Gal 4:21; Lk 24:44; Jn 12:34). Of course, they are related to one another, but strictly speaking, they mean different things. It is the same with the word, “Holy Spirit.” Originally, the Holy Spirit refers to God who has a personality, but we also say that we receive…
What is the difference between the forgiveness of sins and salvation?
The forgiveness of sins and salvation mean the same thing. We can easily understand this when we realize our origin. The salvation we need is the forgiveness of sins The word "salvation" means the act of saving someone from risk, harm, or destruction. Helping a person who is suffering from sickness to be healed or rescuing someone who is in danger of losing his or her life is also a type of salvation. However, the salvation that God provides is not of the body, but of the soul, and the salvation of our souls is also the goal of our faith. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you…
Why did God liken the Holy Spirit to the former and latter rain?
To understand this, first we need to learn about the geographic settings and climate of Israel in relation to rain. Geographical Settings of Israel Israel has low rainfall and its soil is mainly composed of limestone and sandstone, so it is not easy to even find water underground. This is why the historical sites of Israel include many reservoirs which were used to collect rainwater for drinking, and Bible history also shows that the patriarchs like Abraham had to dig wells wherever they went and there were quarrels over water. Thus, rain was directly correlated with the livelihood of the people in Israel, their survival was threatened when it did not rain. … I will send rain on your land…
I want to know in detail about the regular prayer. I want to know why we pray at the regular prayer times and what meanings are contained in the regular prayer.
God gave us, humans, the three conditions necessary for living—breathing, eating, and moving. If any one of them is missing, how can we sustain our life? Those who are in the truth sustain the life of their souls as they breathe through prayer, eat the words of life, and move through preaching. Just as we must breathe continually to sustain our physical life, the Bible says that we should pray continually. The reason is that prayer is like breathing. In order to save us, humans, God established the heavenly sanctuary where sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins are realized. In that sanctuary, Christ who is the High Priest offers a spiritual sacrifice for us according to the regulations He established,…
Today, churches believe in Jesus Christ. However, 2,000 years ago when Jesus came, why did they not believe in Him but rather crucify Him on the cross?
Among the many reasons the Jews rejected Jesus 2,000 years ago, the biggest one was that they did not believe the prophecies of the Bible (Jn 5:46-47). Jesus said that what testifies about Him is the Bible, and on the resurrection day, too, He testified about Himself through the Bible to the disciples who were not sure that He is Christ, so that He let them have conviction in their hearts (Jn 5:39; Lk 24:25-27, 32). That is why the apostles, too, testified that Jesus is Christ through the Bible (Ac 17:2). The Jews did not know the prophecy of the Bible, nor believe it. They persecuted Jesus because they just believed in the God whom they themselves had made…
All churches claim to preach the gospel, but the meaning of the gospel is vague. What is the gospel?
About two thousand years ago, Jesus came to the earth and preached the good news of the kingdom of heaven to save us. Since it was Jesus who preached the gospel of the kingdom, the gospel means all the teachings that Jesus gave us to lead us to the kingdom of heaven. “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”Mt 24:14 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the…
In the Bible, there is a scene where Jesus rebuked people saying, “You worship God in vain.” Why did He say that it was in vain when they worshiped God?
It is easy to think that they receive blessings if they just worship God. However, the teaching of the Bible is different. Jesus said that even though the prophets believe in Him as the Savior and do many things in His name, they will be unable to enter the kingdom of heaven (Mt 7:21-23). People who believe in God give service to God as worship to God. If they are prophets and leaders, they must have given countless services. Nevertheless, they cannot enter the kingdom of heaven, which makes their worship meaningless. 2,000 years ago, the reason that the religious leaders worshiped God in vain is that they kept men’s rules. Outwardly they pretended to be the leaders who loved…
I know that each of us has a soul and that there is the spiritual world, but I can in no way imagine what it will be like. Is there any way I can imagine even a little bit of the spiritual world?
A human consists of the dust of the ground, which is the flesh, and the breath of life, which is the soul. When a man dies, his flesh returns to the ground and the spirit, to God. In other words, in our afterlife, there surely exists the Kingdom of Heaven, the spiritual world, where we live together with God. It is just that it is invisible and that it is hard to explain about the world. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”1 Co 2:9 The highest dimensional space discovered by modern science to this day is the universe. With human…
The Church of God is called Zion. Is there a reason?
The name of the church that Christ established on this earth 2,000 years ago is the Church of God (1 Co 1:2; 11:22; Gal 1:13). The Church of God is also called Zion (Heb 12:22; Rev 14:1). When we find out what kind of place Zion is, we can understand why we call the Church of God Zion. Zion was the name of a small mountain in Jerusalem. After the ark of the covenant of God was placed there, the term “Zion” was used to represent not only Jerusalem but also Israel (1 Ki 8:1). To understand the reason that the Church of God is called Zion, we need to understand the relationship between King David and Jesus first. King…
The Bible says that when Jesus comes again, He will come on the clouds with “glory.” So I don’t understand the fact that He has to come in humble human likeness.
The Bible prophesies that Jesus will come a second time, and that God’s great glory will be revealed at that time (Mt 24:30). Then, does the “glory” that Jesus mentioned mean a physical glory which emits a brilliant light? The glory which Christ possesses is not a physical glory that people imagine. Nonetheless, today people of the world have made their own conclusion, missing the whole point of Jesus’ words, by interpreting the words about the spiritual glory and blessing from a physical perspective. The prophecy of Jesus’ coming with glory and His real appearance When you understand the prophecy concerning Jesus’ first coming and its fulfillment correctly, you can also understand the true meaning of the prophecy about His…
Does the soul really exist?
The question of the soul has been a subject of much discussion and debate among people for a long time. Recently, a renowned British physicist said, "Afterlife is a fairy tale for those afraid of death," and his remarks became the object of controversy. To those who think that death is the end of everything, the soul is nothing but an existence created by the human imagination. Not only atheists but even those who claim to believe in God insist that there is no soul. Just as the Sadducees, a sect of Judaism, denied the existence of the soul 2,000 years ago, so they insist that there is no spiritual world—God only reigns over the visible world. The soul exists…
I often hear people say, “We can be saved as long as we believe in God.” Is that true?
It is definitely true that we can be saved by faith. Jesus said, “According to your faith, will it be done to you.” And Apostle Paul also emphasized the importance of faith by describing it as one of the most important three factors in our Christian life, saying, “The righteous will live by faith”(Mt 9:29; 1 Co 13:13). For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”Ro 1:17 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”Gal 3:11 However, the faith mentioned in the Bible is different from the faith…
The Church of God puts great importance on the feasts such as the Sabbath and the Passover, which other churches do not keep. Is there any special reason for that?
It is God who has established the feasts and commanded us to keep them. Among the laws given by God, there is not a single law that has nothing to do with our salvation and has no meaning. The feasts recorded in the Bible are also closely related with our salvation. The reason why God has established the feasts We are all sinners who committed sins in heaven and have been cast down to this earth. No one born on this earth escape the penalty of “death,” which is the result of sin. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Ro 6:23 In order to save sinners…
It is known that Christianity believes in only one God. Actually, however, most Christians believe in Jesus and the Holy Spirit as well as the LORD God, Jehovah. Does it mean that God is three distinct Persons?
For the salvation of human beings, God divided 6,000 years into three ages—the age of the Father, the age of the Son, and the age of the Holy Spirit—and He carried out His salvation work with a different name in each age. In the age of the Father, God used the name Jehovah; and in the age of the Son, God came in the name of Jesus. In the age of the Holy Spirit, God is to have another name when He carries out His work of redemption on this earth. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…
There are so many Christian denominations, and we often hear people insist that the denomination they belong to is authentic. What exactly is heresy?
From a religious point of view, “heresy” is an idea or doctrine that goes against the true faith. Discerning heresy is very important for our salvation. Even though we have believed in God fervently for a long time, if we belong to a heretical denomination, we cannot be saved. Then, which denomination is a heretic? Standard of heresy People have a tendency to think that the church which has a long history and many followers is authentic and that the church which has not is heretical. However, the length of a church history or the number of followers cannot be a standard for distinguishing the true Church from false churches. If these kinds of standards were right, it would mean…
What Is the Difference Between Immersion Baptism and Sprinkling Baptism?
Baptism is a ritual act to put off the sinful body and to be born into a new life to become a Christian: To be baptized is to bury our sins in water. Different denominations teach and practice different methods of baptism: immersion and sprinkling. There seems to be no big difference between them, but when we understand the meaning of the Greek word for baptize, we can see that Biblical baptism is immersion, not sprinkling. The Greek word "(baptizô)" means ‘to dip, to immerse or to submerge.' The English word ‘baptize' is a direct transliteration from the Greek word. Therefore, if we consider the meaning of the original language, there is no doubt that the Biblical method of baptism…
