Words of the Bible

The Bible enables us to be wise for salvation (2 Ti 3:15). Let us learn the true will of God from it.

I Will Give You

God has told us to “be joyful always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Th 5:16–18). To give thanks in all circumstances means to be always thankful, no matter what the circumstance—good or bad, easy or difficult. When God tells us to give thanks for everything, there must be a reason we should be thankful. We are always receiving abundant love from God. Everything we have—from our wisdom and talents to our faith in God—actually comes from God. As the people of Zion, we should give thanks and glory to God every day for providing us with everything for our future. What do you have that you did not receive? Whenever I do something, I am reminded…

People in Search of Mothers

Children’s short story, “Heart” (Italian: “Cuore”), published by an Italian author, Edmondo De Amicis, in the late 19th century, is evaluated as one of the world masterpieces. The beautiful story became the basis of the animation series, “3,000 Leagues in Search of Mother”: A nine-year-old boy Marco, who travelled about 12,000 ㎞ [7,500 miles] from Genoa, Italy, to Argentina in South America in search of his mother who went to work far away, moved many viewers to tears. It is thanks to the empathy of all time that the novel, which might be regarded as an old classic story, still touches our hearts. Marco is not the only one who needs a mother. All the people of the world, who…

The Blessings of Preaching

I believe everyone in Zion knows well how important the mission of preaching is and how great the blessings are. What would happen to the world if there were no people who were called and sent by God? There is a book titled Fruitless Fall: The Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis by Rowan Jacobsen, an American author. The title itself is very meaningful and thought-provoking. The mission of evangelists in the spiritual world is similar to the role of honeybees that make this earth fruitful. Without gospel preachers, the world would be a place where nobody could expect the fruit of salvation. Let’s think about what a great blessing it is to have God-given authority…

Almighty God and the World of Faith

God wants us to have faith. Faith never comes without knowing God properly. It was the same with the ancestors of faith. Only after understanding God correctly did they start to have true faith. We think that we ourselves believe in God properly. However, if we do not understand God’s almightiness, we will end up confessing our faith with our mouths alone and failing to have faith in our hearts. Through the Bible, let’s learn the faith that is good enough for God to dwell and work in our hearts and keep the true faith. Before and after realizing the Almighty God When God told Gideon to save Israel from the hands of the Midianites, he refused, saying, “How can…

Amazing Perception of Plants

In Korea, you can sometimes see the expression, “The National Assembly in a vegetative state,” on the newspaper. It is a sarcastic expression indicating the National Assembly which causes a high social cost without doing its duty. A patient who is in coma and whose brain does not function is also described as “being in a vegetative state.” Like this, something or someone that has lost the ability of performing functions is likened to a vegetable. Then do plants really have no ability to perceive anything as we assume? Mimosa pudica which is also called “sensitive plant” challenges our prejudice. Mimosa pudica’s leaves quickly fold when touched; it seems that they react to being touched. The secret of its movement…

Be the One Who Does Good Deeds

God calls His people the “salt and light of the world.” What we must have to become the salt and light of the world is good deeds and good minds in God’s eyes. The Bible asks us not to conform any longer to the pattern of this world (Ro 12:2), and teaches us to do good deeds as children of heaven. Even those who do not believe in God often say, “You’ll go to heaven if you do good things, and you’ll go to hell if you do bad things.” We must all remember that our good deeds as well as our faith will become an important factor that determines whether we are going to heaven or hell. Those who…

Keep Yourselves From Idols

An idol is an image—visible and invisible—created by the devil to make us turn away from God and worship him. A false doctrine inducing us not to follow the truth is a kind of idol; and in a broad sense, everything that we love more than God is an idol. This time, let us find out what an idol is in detail. 1. Visible images “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them . . .” Ex 20:4–5 The universe created by God is infinite; it cannot be even measured with human…

Good Habits and Bad Habits

People say that a habit is second nature. Everyone has their own nature. However, it is their habits that have a huge effect on them. We all have good and bad habits. Good habits are helpful for our life of faith, but bad habits are obstacles to the gospel. That is why God has taught us that we should get rid of our old bad habits and replace them with good habits so that we can be born again and enter the kingdom of heaven. Through the Bible, let us think about good and bad habits and get rid of all our bad habits to be born again. A habit of disobeying God’s word 3,500 years ago, the Israelites came…

God’s Love for Us to Be Saved

God is love (1 Jn 4:8). God manages and governs the whole universe, and He is worthy to receive honor and glory from myriads of angels. However, having left the glory of heaven behind, God came to this tiny planet Earth to save His children. He came in the likeness of the sinful flesh and endured all kinds of shame and insults from sinners. He only desired the salvation of His children and walked the path of sacrifice. That is why the Bible says God is love. The great love of God has made us what we are today. Keeping this in mind again, let’s take time to remind ourselves of the holy love and sacrifice of Father and Mother…

The Oil of Faith

Faith is absolutely necessary for us to enter the kingdom of heaven. As the Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Heb 11:6), faith is an essential element we must have in order to go to the kingdom of heaven. Then, how do we know how much faith we have? When we get sick, our body shows the symptoms of that ailment. Likewise, when we fail to fill up our hearts with faith, we come to show many symptoms of spiritual sickness; we always grumble and complain, doubt God’s word, and disbelieve in the power of God. A series of wrong thoughts and behaviors are the symptoms we show when we run out of faith. Jesus said,…

What Should We Give to God?

While living in the world, we have some special days such as our birthdays, admission and graduation days, wedding anniversaries, etc. These days have particular meanings to members of a family. When you have your own special day, all the other members of your family get excited at the thought of what gift they should prepare for you. Then, what should we give to God the Father and God the Mother—our spiritual Parents—when we go back to heaven, our eternal home? What is most pleasing to God? As God’s children, we have only received from God; life, love and everything else. From now on, we need to have faith mature enough to think about what we should give to God—how…

The Scriptures That Say It Must Happen in This Way

Today there are so many churches in the world, and each of them claims they have the true faith. However, the standard of one’s faith is God’s word, not human thoughts or ideas. When we make the words of the Bible the center of our faith, we can walk the right path of faith towards the eternal kingdom of heaven. The Bible consists of God’s prophecies showing what is to occur in the future. So, by studying the Bible carefully, we can discover the true path of faith. Now, let us have time to solidify our faith by examining the fact that God has promised salvation to His children who repent and return into the arms of God the Mother—Heavenly…

Early Morning Prayer

Very early in the morning, Jesus gets up, leaves the house, and goes off to a solitary place, where He prays. Simon and his companions find him. “Everyone is looking for You!” Jesus replies, “Let us go to the nearby villages, so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” Jesus travels throughout Galilee, preaching in many synagogues. The night before, Jesus spent frenetic time healing many with various diseases and driving out many demons. Despite the fatigue of the flesh, He started His day with prayer very early in the morning. In order to carry out His mission of preaching, Jesus moved His steps in silence. “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray…

Those Who Deliver Blessings

God Almighty governs life, death, fortune and misfortune of all human beings. He blesses those who obey His word and punishes those who do not. Blessings are promised for those who make God their treasure and follow all of His teachings (Dt 30:15–16; Job 22:21–28). As the children of heaven, let us firmly believe that everything God has planned will go well as He has promised and force our way into the kingdom of heaven, so we can receive all the blessings God will give us. As the people of Zion who have been blessed earlier, let us also share our blessings by preaching the good news to the seven billion people who have not yet received God’s grace because…

Light and Darkness

Time flows ceaselessly when we are sleeping, working, taking a break, and eating; it passes no matter what we are doing. Since we cannot see time flowing by, we need devices that have been invented to measure the passing of time. They are clocks and watches. It is the same spiritually. We are living in the visible, physical world, so we cannot see or feel the things of the spiritual world. Just like a clock or watch that has been invented to measure the flow of time, the Bible is God’s device to show us the spiritual world which we cannot perceive. Only through the Bible can we correctly discern all the things of the spiritual world; we are able…

Communication with Consideration for Others—A Quick Way to Complete the Gospel Work

Newborn infants burst out crying at first. Air goes into their lungs as soon as they cry, so they can breathe for the first time. The first cry is the first breath, and at the same time it is the first communication with the world. A baby makes his or her presence clear with a loud cry. From the first breath until the day when we breathe our last breath, we communicate with our family, friends, colleagues and neighbors throughout our lifetime. Communication with others can be called the mental breath. Just as good breath is essential for good health, good communication is the foundation of a happy life. Humans are beings that communicate The film Cast Away depicts the…
