The Purpose of Keeping Worship Services

Inherently we are sinners from heaven. Then, what is the purpose of us worshiping God?

First, it is to strengthen our relationship with God.

The one we worship is God. God created the heavens and the earth, breathed life into mankind, saved us who are sinners, and even promised us the Kingdom of Heaven through His words of truth.

Worship service strengthens our relationship with God by reaffirming the relationship between God and us as Parents and Their children, King and His people, Creator and His creatures. Our relationship with God will be unbreakable when we learn about God, revere Him through worship, and praise Him for His grace.

“I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people…”Lev 26:12

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”Jn 4:23

Second, it is to be forgiven of our sins and to be reconciled to God.

The primary purpose of worshiping God is to receive the blessing of forgiveness of sins. Our sins separated us from God (Is 59:1–3). In the Old Testament times, the Israelites sacrificed animals to be forgiven of their sins, and they offered worship services with the blood of the sacrificed animals. Now, Christ came as the reality of the sacrificial lamb. He was sacrificed for our sins so that He could open the way for us to be freed from the chains of sin and be reconciled to God. (Eph 2:12–19). Therefore, it is a matter of course that we keep worship services to remember and commemorate the love of Christ who died for us.

Third, it is to give thanks and glory to God.

God is the Creator of all things in the universe. We live under the grace of God whether we are aware of it or not. God plans all things for our own good. God loves us silently. We are creatures made by God. Therefore, it goes without saying that we must give glory, honor, and thanks to God the Creator.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”Revelation 4:11

Fourth, it is to receive blessings.

God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth, and pours out blessings upon such people. Every worship service contains God’s grace and blessings. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings, and as a result, he received wisdom from God; he became the wisest king in his time, and was able to make his country prosperous (1 Ki 3:4–14).

In this way, God gives the forgiveness of sins, salvation, and blessings to those who keep worship services. We all must worship God in spirit and truth to receive many blessings from God.
